Over 1,000 Trucks, Travelers Stranded In Kogi/Ekiti Highway

Over 1,000 trucks and travelers were on Friday stranded along the Kogi/Ekiti highway.

Some of the affected drivers and passengers who narrated their experiences expressed helplessness over the situation.

Many of them said they have spent several hours in the traffic without no end in sight.

It was observed that the situation was caused by a failed portion of the highway close to the border of the two towns where a security checkpoint was located.

Our reporter who also witnessed the incident lost count of the trucks after he counted over 1,000.

The situation was compounded by the impact of the vehicles that broke down inside the snarl.

Residents engaged in the sale of cook food and soft drinks to make brisk business.

Others also engaged in Motorcycle business to take some of them who wished to discontinue with the journey to Kabba following the development.

A visibly frustrated motorist who gave his name as John, expressed frustration over the development.

“I have been stuck here for over 5 hours now. What is most disturbing is that we don’t even know when it will ease.

Also, a truck driver, Mallam Sheu, said some of them have been trapped in the traffic since yesterday (Thursday).

Some military men and Road Safety officers in collaboration with some volunteer motorists were making frantic efforts to control the situation before the filing of this report past 5:00pm on Thursday.
