Opinion: What The Government Should Do Instead Of Paying Corps Members N33,000 Monthly

National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme has helped the nation in terms of promoting of peace and unity across the country in the past. Right now, the Nigeria’s young graduates are suffering for the country in the name of serving their fatherland.

The reason the NYSC scheme was established in 1973 was to encourage interethnic integration, and right now the integration is massive even without corps members involvement. The federal government should do this for young graduates instead of sending them to some remote villages and giving them N33, 000 as allowance.

1. The federal government is spending a lot of money to run this NYSC scheme, they should pay a sum of money to young graduates; paying N500,000 to every graduating student is not what the federal government cannot do. With this money, the graduates will establish themselves.

This is the only way Nigerian youths won’t be jobless. The N33, 000 they are being paid by the end of the month is not enough for their upkeep, let alone saving money. The integration is already made possible. We must not live in the past.

What do you think about this?
